The July 2025 quarter has brought another period of change across the financial landscape, shaped by shifting monetary policy, political developments, and global market movements. Stock markets rebounded strongly after the postponement of certain US tariffs, with UK equities in particular catching renewed interest from international investors. The FTSE 100 has continued to climb, supported in part by the relative value of UK listed companies compared with other major markets.

Within the broader environment, several long-term themes continue to draw attention. Defence spending across NATO remains on a multi-year trajectory, technological innovation is accelerating rapidly, and UK companies continue to play a significant role in income-focused strategies due to their traditionally higher dividends. Meanwhile, expectations of potential UK interest rate cuts later in the year have contributed to a more stable backdrop, even as inflation and global uncertainties persist.

Gilt markets have seen some volatility following shifts in government policy, though longer-term yields remain supported by anticipated monetary easing. The housing market, while subdued, has shown signs of stabilisation as wage growth and lending conditions gradually improve.

As we move through the second half of 2025, the outlook remains cautiously balanced. Economic conditions, policy decisions, and global events will continue to shape confidence and momentum across UK markets.
